EmpireUC Teams Connect: Set up Microsoft Teams with your Empire

EmpireUC Teams Connect: Set up Microsoft Teams with your Empire details

Empire Telecom · EmpireUC Teams Connect

Connect Microsoft Teams to EmpireUC: add the address Empire sends you, route calls through it and give each person their phone number.

Open the Teams admin center →Where: Microsoft 365 admins sign in at admin.teams.microsoft.com and admin.microsoft.com.
Direct link: https://admin.teams.microsoft.com

What Empire sends you

  • Your Teams Connect address: a subdomain made for your company (it looks like yourcompany.something.com). Teams uses it instead of a SIP username and password.
  • Your phone numbers, in full format (for example +17325551234).

Note: you need to be a Microsoft 365 Global Administrator. Each person who makes calls needs a Teams Phone license (or a Microsoft 365 E5). You do not need a Microsoft Calling Plan.

1. Add your Teams Connect address to Microsoft 365

1Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
2Go to Settings > Domains (some tenants show Setup > Domains) and press Add domain.
3Type the Teams Connect address Empire sent you and press Next.
4Choose Add a TXT record instead and press Next.
5Copy the TXT value and email it to support@empiretelecomnj.com. Empire adds it for you, because the address lives on Empire's side.
6When Empire confirms, press Verify.
7Choose I'll add the DNS records myself, clear every service on the next page, then press Finish. The domain should show Setup complete.

2. Switch the address on

1Create one user (or a Teams resource account) whose sign-in name ends in the new address, for example teams@yourcompany.something.com.
2Give it a license that includes Teams (for example Microsoft 365 E3, E5 or Business Standard).
3Tell Empire it is done. Empire checks the connection from its side.

3. Send calls through EmpireUC

1Open the Teams admin center and go to Voice > Direct Routing.
2Press Manage PSTN usage records, press Add, type EmpireUC and press Apply.
3Open the Voice routes tab and press Add. Name it EmpireUC, set priority 1 and number pattern .* (every number).
4Under SBCs enrolled, press Add SBCs. Under Add SBC as derived trunk, type your Teams Connect address and press Add, then Apply.
5Under PSTN usage records, add EmpireUC, then press Save.
6Go to Voice > Voice routing policies, press Add, name it EmpireUC, add the EmpireUC usage record and press Save.

Important: do not put the EmpireUC usage on the org-wide (Global) policy unless everyone in your company calls through Empire. Assign the policy to people instead.

4. Give each person their number

1In the Teams admin center go to Users > Manage users and pick the person.
2On Policies, press Edit and set Voice routing policy to EmpireUC. Save.
3On Account, under General information, press Edit. Under Assign phone number, set Phone number type to Direct Routing, type their number and press Apply.
4Have them sign out of Teams and back in, then place a test call in and out.

Tip: prefer PowerShell? Grant-CsOnlineVoiceRoutingPolicy -Identity user@company.com -PolicyName EmpireUC then Set-CsPhoneNumberAssignment -Identity user@company.com -PhoneNumber +17325551234 -PhoneNumberType DirectRouting.

Note: Microsoft changes can take a while to show up. If calls do not connect after an hour, call Empire Telecom support with the person's name and number.
